Lobero LIVE will present ALO and Donavon Frankenreiter, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, at the Lobero Theatre.

ALO stands for Animal Liberation Orchestra because music liberates the inner animal, the group explains.

Performers Zach Gill, Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz, and Steve Adams connected through their love of music while still pre-teens in Saratoga, California.

After 25 years, Gill (keyboards/vocals), Lebo (guitar/vocals), Adams (bass, vocals) and newest addition, Bay Area drummer Ezra Lipp (drums, vocals), have recorded their new full-length album “Silver Saturdays.”

ALO members call their music “jam-pop,” — “meticulously-crafted/accessibly-hooky compositions laced with improvisational departures, in which the band melds into a single organism in voice and consciousness.”

For nearly two decades, Donavon Frankenreiter has been traveling the globe, first as a professional surfer and now as a musician.

Born in Southern California, Frankenreiter spent most of his youth chasing waves, turning pro at the age of 16. These days, it’s concert halls, not surf competitions, that bring Frankenreiter to town, where he entertains with his blend of laid-back grooves, philosophical lyrics and soulful delivery.

In September, Frankenreiter will be releasing his first studio album in nine years. The LP, “Get Outta Your Mind,” marks the 20-year anniversary of his self-titled debut album.

Tickets for ALO and Donavon Frankenreiter are on sale at Lobero.org and by calling the Lobero Box Office, 805-963-0761.
