Carpinteria High boys and girls swim teams each picked up Citrus Coast League titles with standout showings at the Carpinteria Community Pool on Thursday.

As a team, the Warriors broke 40 personal records, set five new school records and registered seven consideration times for CIF-SS Div. 2.

Boys

Jackson Melton had a historic day for Carpinteria, breaking his own school record in the 200 freestyle (1:47.62), setting a new record in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.6) and leading off the 4×100 freestyle relay with a split of 48.49 seconds.

“Jackson crushed it again today, he was so mentally locked in,” Warriors coach Jon Otsuki said.

Meanwhile, Asher Smith smashed his own 100 backstroke record with a time of 55.73 seconds and set a new personal best in the 50 freestyle at 22.78 seconds.

Sky Korling placed second in the 100 fly but improved his own school record with a mark of 55.18 seconds.

Rounding out the first-place individual finishers were Jacob Otsuki (50 freestyle, 22.40) and Jake Ehlers (500 freestyle, 5:02.35). The relay quartet of Melton, Ehlers, Smith and Jacob Otsuki won the 4×50 freestyle and the 4×100 freestyle relays.

Jacob Otsuki and Matthew Endo claimed CIF consideration times in the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, respectively.

Girls

The two event winners for the Carpinteria girls were Lucy Moore in the 100 backstroke and Giulia Piccoletti in the 200 IM.

Lilli Nemetz was strong in the 500 freestyle, finishing second with a new personal-record time of 5:30.37, also a CIF qualifying time.

Also turning in strong performances in several events were Izzy Scott (2nd place in 50 freestyle, 3rd place in 100 freestyle) and Ruby Cluderay (4th place in 100 backstroke, 4th place in 200 freestyle.

“I didn’t know if we could repeat our performance numbers compared to Tuesday prelims, but the team managed to shake off the early disappointment of the relay disqualification and get back on track,” Jon Otsuki said.

The CIF preliminary round will be next Wednesday at Mt. SAC.
